Types of forest in Pakistan :

Definition of forest:

A forest can be defined as a region with a high density of trees. Forest is the habitat for a variety of living beings including plants, animals and was microorganisms.

Types of forest:

>. Littoral and Swamp Forests.

>. Tropical Dry Deciduous Forests.

>. Tropical Thorn Forests.

>. Subtropical Forests.

>. Subtropical Pine Forests.

>. Alpine Forests.

Littoral and Swamp Forests

Littoral and Swamp forests: These are more or less gregarious forests of low height which occur in the Arabian sea around the coast of Karachi and Pasni in Balochistan. The main species is Avicennia marina (99%). Other species like Rhizophora have disappeared over a period of time due to heaving cutting.

The Tropical dry deciduous forest :

The Tropical dry deciduous forest of Pakistan have rich floral diversity and are located in a narrow belt along the Himalayan and sub-Himalayan foothills, extending to the Hindukush Mountains.

Tropical Thorn Forest :

Location of Tropical Thorn Forest Ecosystem of Pakistan: It is located in semi-arid and arid regions that include the deserts of Pakistan. The forest is covering the whole Indus plain excluding few areas such as Gujrat, Sialkot, and Jehlum. The forest is present along thal, thar and cholistan deserts.

Subtropical forest :

The sub-tropical forests are found in the Attock, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Jhelum and Gujrat districts of the Punjab, and in the Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Peshawar and Kohat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa up to a height of 1,000 metter

Subtropical pine forest :

This particular type of forest is usually spotted in Pakistan bet ween the elevations of 900 metre to 1700 metre in the Western Himalayas – also known as Punjab Himalayas.
